Most of mid Essex falls within the area of an amber snow and ice warning from the Met Office this weekend. Snow showers are expected between 4pm on Saturday 17 March and 9am on Sunday 18 March, becoming more frequent through Saturday evening and night with icy patches also likely on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Travel delays are likely.

If you need to collect a prescription or buy over the counter medicines, you are advised to do so before Saturday afternoon. Please ensure you have everything you need and avoid unnecessary travel to avoid slips and falls on the ice until the weather clears.

Parts of the Dengie Peninsula may avoid the worst of the snow, as they are subject only to a yellow ice and snow warning, but most of our area and much of the rest of Essex falls under the amber warning. Conditions may well worsen through Saturday night in those areas, with a strong easterly wind and possible blizzard conditions at times.

If you have any neigbhours who are frail or have mobility difficulties, please check in on them if you can.
