Training provided during 2019-2020
Equality and Diversity Training
Board members including our Lay Board member for Public and Patient Engagement received equality and diversity training on 25 April 2019 to ensure as an organisation we create a fairer society where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
Social Media Training
Board members, clinical leads and commissioners received in-house training on social media in April 2019. The training looked at how and why social media use has become so widespread and how as a health organisation we can utilise the benefits to help us to achieve our strategic objectives. We also offered best practice advice on how to create a Twitter account and adhere to the CCG social media policy.
Dementia Friends Training
Dementia Friends training was provided for CCG staff by the Head of Transformation and Commissioning Mental Health lead in May 2019. These sessions provide everyone who takes part with valuable lessons in how to alter your behaviour when faced with someone who lives with Dementia, simple ways to make them feel more at ease. These sessions resulted in a large increase in Dementia Friends trained staff.
We have also offered Dementia Friends Training to GP practices across mid Essex, this training was delivered by the Alzheimer’s Society, and as a result, 26 GP practices have received the training or are in the process of receiving this.
LGBT+ training supports healthcare professionals in meeting the needs of their lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) patients and is part of the Pride in Practice pilot programme we are delivering with the LGBT Foundation in mid Essex. Training was provided by the LGBT Foundation to CCG staff in June 2019 and twenty of our GP practice teams in mid Essex between July 2019 and January 2020. Some practices have also gained an LGBT Foundation Gold accreditation and are the first in the region to do so . More GP practices in mid Essex are currently receiving this training and working towards an LGBT Foundation accreditation.
Equality and Health Inequalities Impact Assessments and Patient Involvement Training
Equality and Health Inequalities Impact Assessments and Patient Involvement training enables CCG staff to carry our Equality and Health Impact Assessments and learn about how to carry our patient involvement particularly with seldom asked groups. This ensures that we are promoting equality and addressing health inequalities which are at the heart of NHS England’s values. Commissioners and Senior Managers at the CCG received this training on 6 February 2020 and a further session is planned on 4 March 2020.
