Mid and South Essex CCG Joint Committee
The Mid and South Essex CCG Joint Committee is a meeting of the five Clinical Commissioning Groups in mid and south Essex. Meetings are held in public, unless there is a need to discuss confidential issues in private. Any decisions taken in private are then reported publicly if and when it is appropriate to do so.
The meeting is presided over by one of the CCGs’ Chairs (an elected GP member of the Board), who share this role on a rotational basis. The membership of the Joint Committee is made up of the five CCG GP Chairs, the CCGs’ Joint Accountable Officer, and the CCGs’ Alliance Directors. The meeting is also attended by the Executive Chief Finance Officer and Executive Director of Nursing and Quality. Lay membership representation is provided by the CCGs’ Audit Committee Chairs who attend on a rotational basis.
The Joint Committee will act collectively in the planning, securing and monitoring of services to meet the needs of the population of mid and south Essex, as well as representing the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint for services commissioned over a larger area. Working collaboratively in this way will allow us to have a stronger influence and this means better outcomes for patients. It also allows us to provide greater scrutiny and influence on any decision that affects our area.
Specifically, the CCG Joint Committee will commission and manage the contracts for Acute services (NHS and independent sector), NHS 111 and Out of Hours services, ambulance services, Patient Transport services, community services and Mental Health services. The Joint Committee will also play a role in decision making about Learning Disability services within the existing pan-Essex arrangements. All other decisions about healthcare, for example within primary care, will continue be taken locally by the relevant CCG. The Joint Committee is not an organisation or legal entity and the individual CCGs continue to be the statutory organisations responsible for commissioning healthcare in this area.
